Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of the Interior, has mandated a thorough inquiry into the claims of corruption and bribery inside the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Tunji-Ojo called bribery claims and other acts of misconduct in the Service repugnant behavior and denounced them both.
He issued a dire warning, saying that any kind of corruption, lack of professionalism, or indiscipline inside the Ministry’s paramilitary services will be dealt with harsh penalties.
“The ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” Tunji-Ojo said.
The minister added that a special investigating team led by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, will look into the claims and provide a thorough report in a statement provided by his media assistant, Babatunde Alao.
He promised that the inquiry will be thorough, open, and unbiased and that any staff members found to have broken any rules would face the proper disciplinary action.
