After the Senate confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun on September 25, 2024, President Bola Tinubu swore her in as Nigeria’s 23rd substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria.
On Monday, Kekere-Ekun took the oath of office and signed the oath register in the State House’s Council Chamber in Abuja.
She takes over for Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who was sworn in on June 27, 2022, and retired on August 22, 2024, at the age of 70.
Three of Kekere-Ekun’s predecessors were present at the ceremony on Monday: Justice Ariwoola, the first female CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Justice Walter Onnoghen, and the first female CJN, Justice Aloma Mukhtar.
Her family members and the other Supreme Court justices were also present in the Chambers.
For the second time in the last five weeks, Kekere-Ekun is taking the oath of office.
On August 23, Tinubu swore her in as interim president prior to the Senate’s approval.
