Oyo Senator Loses Out As Akpabio Announces Committee Reshuffle in 10th Senate
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced a minor reshuffle in the leadership of several standing committees in the 10th Senate.
As part of the changes, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South) has been removed as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Electoral Matters. He has been replaced by Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South.
According to a statement from the Office of the Senate President, Senator Alli will now serve as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Institutions and Research—a role previously held by Senator Lalong.
In other changes, Senator Pam Nwadkon (Plateau North) has been appointed Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, taking over from Senator Anthony Ani (Ebonyi South). Senator Ani will now serve as Vice Chairman of the Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), replacing Senator Eze Kenneth Emeka (Ebonyi Central).
Senator Akpabio described the reassignments as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the effectiveness and service delivery capacity of the 10th National Assembly.
Speaking during plenary, the Senate President noted that the changes were the result of a careful review of the Senate’s operational needs and the strengths of individual lawmakers.
“We will continue to make adjustments where necessary in order to deliver on our legislative mandate,” Akpabio stated, emphasizing the need for adaptability to achieve the Senate’s goals.
He also directed the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, to ensure that all committees submit their activity reports for consideration on the Senate floor.
In his final remarks, Akpabio urged senators to recommit themselves to national service with integrity and patriotism, calling for legislative focus on initiatives that promote unity and national development.
