House Of Reps
Three members of the House of Representatives from Katsina State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers—Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai (Bakori/Danja), Aliyu Iliyasu (Safana/Batsari), and Salisu Yusuf Majigiri (Mashi/Dutsi)—announced their resignation from the PDP during Thursday’s plenary session at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read their defection letters on the floor, marking the formal transition of the trio to the APC.
Citing ongoing internal crises and unresolved conflicts within the PDP, the lawmakers stated that the party’s instability had hindered their ability to effectively represent their constituents and pursue a progressive legislative agenda.
This latest development brings the total number of lawmakers who have switched parties in the 10th Assembly to 27 since its inauguration on June 13, 2023. Of these, 24 have left the PDP, Labour Party, or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the APC. One lawmaker moved from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while two others left the Labour Party for the PDP.
Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda was present in the chamber to show support for the defecting lawmakers.
