UNIOSUN Student Publishes Groundbreaking Book On Feminism And Sexuality
Muyideen Ayomide Faruk, a 200-level student of the Department of English and International Studies at Osun State University, has made a significant mark in the literary world with the release of his debut book, “Otherside.” This collection of six stories delves into themes of feminism and sexuality through a unique blend of fiction and fact.
A Labor of Love
Muyideen’s passion for writing stems from his deep-rooted love for literature. “I’ve always loved to write,” he says. “My ability to write came from my love for literature.” The project, which spanned two years, was not without its challenges. Muyideen had to overcome financial constraints, psychological hurdles, and physical exhaustion. Despite these obstacles, he credits divine help and the support of his colleagues, lecturers, and parents for enabling him to complete the book.
Positive Reception
“Otherside” has received positive feedback from readers and academic staff alike. “Lecturers were impressed and proud,” Muyideen says. “The audience found it captivating.” Even the story he personally didn’t like has received amazing feedback. Fogbonja Opeyemi Mary, a student of the Department of English and International Studies, praises the book as an “interesting read” with some parts that are “best suited for readers who are mature enough to engage with those themes thoughtfully.”
Upcoming Launches
The book has already been launched in Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). Additional launches are scheduled for July 4th at Osun State University Ikire Campus Resource Room and July 5th, 2025, at OAU.
A Bright Future Ahead
Muyideen has no intention of slowing down. He’s currently working on another book, which will be released soon. “A lot more are still coming,” he affirms. This accomplishment has given him the zeal to continue writing and discover himself as both a student and a writer. His advice to budding writers? “Read a lot. Believe in yourself. Never see your story as a mistake. Just keep writing.” With “Otherside,” Muyideen sets an inspiring example for fellow students who dream of sharing their own stories with the world.
