President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged young Nigerians in the digital media space to harness their platforms for national progress, unity, and development. He emphasized the importance of verifying information before amplifying it to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Speaking at the Progressives Digital Media Summit, themed “Unveiling the Critical Role of New Media in National Development,” Tinubu commended the creativity and resilience of Nigeria’s youth in using digital tools to innovate, educate, and demand accountability.
The President highlighted his administration’s commitment to supporting digital innovation through the National Digital Innovation Fund and policies that promote a thriving startup ecosystem. He also warned practitioners to remain vigilant against disinformation and cyber threats.
According to Tinubu, digital media is a central driver of economic growth, civic engagement, and social change. He encouraged new media influencers to build businesses that create employment, produce content that reflects unifying values, and serve as positive catalysts for societal development.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, praised digital media practitioners who have consistently stood up for Nigeria and projected the nation positively on the global stage.
The Summit aimed to address challenges in the digital space, including disinformation, cyber threats, and the spread of misinformation. It also highlighted the importance of harnessing digital media for national development and promoting unity and accuracy in online content.
