A group of supporters gathered at the Oyo State Government Secretariat today to plead with Governor Seyi Makinde to contest for the presidency in 2027. The protesters, carrying placards and chanting Makinde’s name, emphasized that the governor possesses the leadership qualities and vision necessary to steer Nigeria towards a brighter future.
This plea is not new, as various groups have been rallying behind Makinde’s potential candidacy, citing his impressive governance record in Oyo State. Under his leadership, the state has seen significant developments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security. Makinde’s administration has been praised for its people-centric policies and commitment to sustainable development.
One of the key areas where Makinde has made significant strides is in infrastructure development. His administration has completed 335.77 kilometers of roads, with 273.31 kilometers under construction. Additionally, his government has renovated and equipped 351 Primary Healthcare Centres, with 264 completed as of March 2025. In the education sector, Makinde’s government has recruited 7,500 teaching staff and 500 non-teaching personnel for TESCOM, and 7,000 primary school teachers for SUBEB.
Makinde’s leadership style has also been praised for its people-centric approach. His administration has strengthened the Oyo Amotekun Corps and established a robust emergency response system, ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents. These achievements have earned him endorsements from diverse groups, who praise his leadership skills and vision for Nigeria.
While Makinde has not officially declared his candidacy, his supporters remain optimistic about his chances, especially with the PDP zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. As the 2027 presidential election approaches, all eyes are on Makinde, who has consistently emphasized the importance of effective governance and people-centric policies. Whether he will heed the call of his supporters remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – he has the potential to make a significant impact on the nation’s political landscape.
