The Federal High Court in Abuja has arraigned four suspects linked to the murder of Remi Abass, the late Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area in Osun State. Abubakar Kabiru, Tajudeen Opeyemi, Akeem Agbomojo, and Akintoye Olayemi were charged with terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and murder.
The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court ordered their remand at the Kuje Custodial Centre and adjourned the case to December 4, 2025, for hearing.
The murder is linked to political tension between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State. The conflict escalated after the Court of Appeal declared the election of APC council chairmen and councillors valid, leading to clashes between rival supporters.
The police investigation led to the arrest and arraignment of the four suspects. An earlier charge involving seven suspects was withdrawn due to the death of one of the accused.
The case highlights the need for peaceful resolution of political disputes and the importance of upholding the rule of law.
