Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commended the efforts of the Oyo State government in upgrading the Alakia Domestic Airport in Ibadan to an international airport. Makinde made this statement while hosting Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, and other executives of the PDP National Caucus of State Governors (NCOC) on a tour of the ongoing project.
“federal government did not do it for us” we did it for ourselves,” Makinde said, highlighting the state’s proactive approach to development. The project, valued at N41 billion, is being undertaken by Craneburg Construction Company and is expected to be completed within 12 months.
The upgrade includes the construction of a new terminal building, runway expansion, and other facilities to accommodate international flights. Makinde’s administration has prioritized infrastructure development, and the airport upgrade is a testament to the state’s commitment to improving its economy and quality of life for its citizens.
The visit by the Adamawa State Governor and PDP NCOC executives underscores the project’s significance and the collaborative efforts among states to drive development and also to inspect venue for the people’s Democratic Party convention in November.
Makinde’s statement serves as a message to other states to take charge of their development and not wait for federal government intervention.
The upgraded airport is expected to boost economic growth, create jobs, and increase connectivity between Ibadan and other major cities. As the project nears completion, Oyo State residents are optimistic about the benefits it will bring to the region.
