In a surprising turn of events, the Honorable Councilors of Atisbo Local Government have suspended the Executive Chairman, Hon. Olumuyiwa Bashir Alade, for six months due to allegations of gross misconduct.
The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Oladokun Rahman Adetunji, announced this decision to our media outlets, He indicated that the suspension follows a comprehensive investigation into multiple allegations leveled against the Chairman, which include negligence of duty, moral misconduct, unlawful withholding of worker salaries, mismanagement of public funds, and a disregard for legislative authority and oversight.
The specific allegations against the Chairman are as follows:
- Insecurity Issues: Failure to address rising insecurity in the local government area, which led to a brutal attack on a resident in Ward 3.
- Hostile Work Environment: Displaying immoral and unprofessional behavior towards senior officers, resulting in a hostile work environment.
- Withholding Salaries: Unlawfully withholding workers’ salaries without following due process or obtaining legislative approval.
- Mismanagement of Funds: Recklessly spending public funds on frivolous and unapproved projects.
- Misuse of Property: Misusing local government property and interfering with the official duties of other officers.
- Disloyalty: Demonstrating disloyalty to the ruling party and neglecting party responsibilities.
- Disregard for Authority: Ignoring legislative authority and oversight, including refusing to honor legislative summons.
In light of these allegations, the councilors have resolved, after careful consideration and in accordance with relevant constitutional and legal provisions, to suspend Hon. Olumuyiwa Bashir Alade from office for six months, effective immediately.
The council also agreed to notify all relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs, about the suspension. Documentation of this resolution has already been signed by the councilors for further processing.
