A public statement attributed to former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), has raised serious national security concerns over the alleged verbal assault by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, on a uniformed military officer.
According to Buratai, the incident, which reportedly occurred on November 11, 2025, should not be taken lightly. He described Wike’s conduct as “an act of profound indiscipline” and warned that such behavior could severely undermine the nation’s security framework and the chain of command in the Armed Forces.
“A minister’s public disparagement of a uniformed officer is not mere misconduct — it is a direct assault on national order and the institutional integrity of our Armed Forces,” Buratai said in a statement.
He emphasized that the incident goes beyond politics and amounts to a clear disrespect for the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and a blow to the morale of military personnel across the country.
“This is not political theatre. It is reckless endangerment,” he added, insisting that such acts erode the foundation of discipline and mutual respect critical to Nigeria’s national security.
Buratai has called on Wike to immediately tender a public apology to President Tinubu, the Armed Forces, and the specific officer involved, stressing that nothing short of this would suffice to restore confidence in civilian-military relations.
“The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less,” Buratai concluded.
