In a shocking cybersecurity breach, unidentified hackers have reportedly gained access to the mobile phones of two of Nigeria’s most prominent billionaires — Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola — demanding a hefty ransom in exchange for restoring access and not leaking sensitive information.
According to preliminary reports, the cyberattack occurred earlier this week, with sources close to the business moguls confirming that personal and business data may have been compromised.
The hackers, using encrypted channels, have allegedly reached out to representatives of both businessmen, threatening to publish confidential communications and documents unless a multi-million naira ransom is paid.
Security agencies are said to have been alerted, and investigations are currently ongoing to trace the origin of the breach. Cybersecurity experts have also been deployed to contain the incident and safeguard further exposure of sensitive materials.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from either Dangote Group or Geregu Power, Otedola’s firm.
This incident raises fresh concerns about the vulnerability of high-profile individuals in Nigeria to digital threats and highlights the growing need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
