The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the duly elected National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This development was confirmed on Tuesday following INEC’s review of the party’s recently concluded national convention, which was held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a formal notification sent to the PDP headquarters and made available to the media, INEC acknowledged the outcome of the convention and listed Turaki as the party’s national leader, replacing the former chairman.
INEC’s recognition puts to rest ongoing internal disputes and rival claims to the party’s leadership, particularly from factions loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Turaki, a senior advocate and former presidential aspirant, had emerged as consensus candidate during the convention, which was attended by party delegates, governors, and key stakeholders.
Party sources say INEC’s endorsement is expected to strengthen the new National Working Committee (NWC) under Turaki’s leadership and bring some stability after months of internal wrangling.
A statement from the PDP is expected shortly to officially react to the development.
