The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic twist on Tuesday as a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, and several others.
The retaliatory move comes barely a week after Wike and his allies were expelled by a rival faction of the party. The latest decision was reached during a meeting of the Wike-aligned Board of Trustees held in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, tensions between the two factions erupted at the PDP’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. Supporters from both sides clashed violently, prompting police intervention and the use of teargas to restore order.
The expulsion of Governor Makinde and others by Wike’s loyalists marks a significant escalation in the power struggle within the PDP, as both sides continue to assert legitimacy and control over the party’s structures.
As of press time, the national leadership of the party has yet to issue an official statement on the latest development. However, political observers warn that the ongoing rift could further weaken the PDP ahead of future elections if reconciliation efforts fail.
