Security operatives have sealed off the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza, located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, amid the party’s deepening leadership crisis.
The move comes just hours after a violent clash between rival factions of the party on Tuesday, which led to a stampede and the use of teargas by police to disperse party supporters and officials.
Heavily armed police officers have now cordoned off the entire building, restricting access to party staff, journalists, and members of the public. The atmosphere around the secretariat remains tense, with patrol vehicles stationed at major entry points.
This dramatic action follows escalating tensions between the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the newly recognized leadership under Kabiru Turaki, SAN.
Earlier today, both factions had scheduled parallel meetings at the secretariat, resulting in chaos and confrontation that disrupted normal party activities.
The police are yet to issue an official statement on the reason for the seal-off, but sources suggest it is aimed at preventing further breakdown of law and order.
