The Chairman of the Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaji Ishaq Kunle Sanni, has firmly condemned attempts to remove the Chief Imam of Ogbomosho, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Oluwasina Ayilara, stating that no individual or group — whether from Agege or beyond — has the authority to depose him.
Alhaji Sanni made the declaration while reacting to recent controversies surrounding the leadership of the Ogbomosho Muslim community, following resistance allegedly led by some external figures believed to be aligned with interests outside Oyo State.
In a strongly worded statement, the Muslim leader emphasized that the Chief Imam remains the legitimate spiritual head of the Ogbomosho Muslim Ummah and warned against what he described as “unfounded interference and disrespect for religious structures.”
“No man in Agege or elsewhere has the power or religious justification to remove a properly appointed Imam in Ogbomosho,” he said. “The process of selection and appointment followed due Islamic tradition and local consensus. Any external interference is null, void, and highly provocative.”
He urged all concerned parties to maintain peace and allow religious institutions to function without political or tribal manipulation.
Alhaji Sanni reaffirmed the Oyo State Muslim Community’s support for Imam Ayilara and called on the faithful to rally behind him in the face of intimidation or unlawful threats.
