The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) is set to formally commission its state-of-the-art Alakija Teaching Hospital, with the presence of Nigeria’s former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, expected at the landmark event.
The commissioning, scheduled to take place on the 15th of December in Osogbo, marks a major milestone for the university and the state’s healthcare and academic sectors. The hospital, named after businesswoman and philanthropist Folorunso Alakija, is expected to serve as a vital centre for medical training, research, and advanced healthcare delivery in the region.
Sources within the university confirmed that the event will attract top dignitaries from across Nigeria, including political leaders, academics, health professionals, and members of the business community.
The facility, funded through a blend of public support and private contributions, including the generous endowment by Mrs. Alakija, will provide medical students with hands-on clinical experience and boost the university’s College of Health Sciences.
The presence of former Vice President Osinbajo, known for his advocacy for education and healthcare reforms, is seen as a strong endorsement of UNIOSUN’s efforts to bridge gaps in medical training and infrastructure.
More updates to follow as preparations for the commissioning ceremony continue.
