Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, Group Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, on his recent conferment of the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa) by the University of Ibadan.
In a congratulatory message dated November 19, 2025, Olayinka praised Dr. Adeduntan’s unwavering support to the institution, particularly during his own tenure as Vice-Chancellor from 2015 to 2020.
“You were extremely helpful to us as a University… especially in the strategic partnerships and linkages you fostered between First Bank of Nigeria and the University of Ibadan,” Olayinka wrote, highlighting the sponsorship of annual career fairs and training programmes for final-year students as notable contributions.
He further revealed that Dr. Adeduntan had been previously considered for the honorary award by the University’s Joint Council/Senate Committee as far back as 2020, during Olayinka’s tenure, though it wasn’t ratified at the time due to unforeseen circumstances.
“Thankfully, it was faithfully recorded in the minutes,” he noted, emphasizing the continuity and institutional memory that defines the governance structure of the university.
Prof. Olayinka also praised the present administration led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kayode Adebowale and the Pro-Chancellor, Chief Bisi Akande, for bringing the well-deserved recognition to fruition.
“Though you have received many honours globally, this one from your alma mater holds special significance,” he said. “To God alone be the honour, glory, and adoration.”
He concluded with a personal message: “I appreciate your patience and understanding, which I am convinced are part of your intrinsic personal habits. Oye a mori l’agbara Olorun.”
Dr. Adeduntan, a proud alumnus of UI’s Veterinary Medicine faculty, has led First Bank through a period of growth and innovation, earning recognition both at home and abroad.
