There was a mild drama at the Ooni of Ife’s 10th Coronation Anniversary in Osun State when Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, interrupted Governor Ademola Adeleke during his speech.
The event, held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, marked the 10th year of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi’s reign. As part of the celebration, the Ooni conferred the title of Yeye Asiwaju Oodua on the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The ceremony attracted top dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and governors such as Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
Other notable personalities present were Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and former First Lady Dr. Patience Jonathan.
Also in attendance were Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President; Hajia Fatimoh Abass, wife of the Speaker; and Hajia Salamatu Gbajabiamila, wife of the Chief of Staff to the President.
Additional dignitaries included Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, Minister of State for the FCT; Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri; Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, Emir of Zazzau; Oba AbdWahab Oyedotun, the Orangun of Ila; and Oba Ghandi Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso.
Despite the colourful atmosphere, a brief moment of tension unfolded between the First Lady and Governor Adeleke while he was speaking.
A video from the event shows Adeleke singing as part of his address, a style many of his supporters find entertaining. But the First Lady seemed displeased with the diversion. She stood up, walked toward him, and told him to focus on his remarks and not “waste time.”
She was heard saying in Yoruba, “ma pa lẹ e mo,” meaning she would “pack up” or cut short his speech. Governor Adeleke nodded, chuckled slightly, and continued, while Mrs. Tinubu returned to her seat.
The video has sparked wide reactions online, with many describing the moment as both surprising and awkward.
