Seven governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have stepped down to support Bola Oyebamiji as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the primary election.
The decision came after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to reports, the meeting was called to resolve tensions within the party and streamline the number of contestants ahead of the primary.
Those who withdrew from the race include former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.
However, one of the aspirants, Iyiola Omisore, stayed away from the meeting. Omisore had earlier criticised his disqualification from the race, describing it as “a joke taken too far.”
The APC governorship primary election will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
On Tuesday, the party elected one thousand six hundred and sixty (1,660) delegates for the exercise.
Announcing the outcome at the party secretariat in Osogbo after the exercise held across the 332 wards, the Chairman of the Osun State Gubernatorial Congress Delegate Committee, Engr.
Shehu Dange confirmed that five delegates were elected in each of the state’s 332 wards.
