The Senior Pastor of Harvesters International Church, Bolaji Idowu, has announced that his church will commence the payment of N50,000 monthly for three months to members who serve in the church but are currently unemployed.
Pastor Idowu disclosed this development during a church service on Sunday.
He said that the financial support was aimed at helping the affected members stabilise while they search for new employment opportunities.
Pastor Idowu said, “All those that serve in church that are in between jobs, watch what I said. You know, they’re in between jobs. You used to have a job, you lost a job. For the next three months, we’ll be giving you N50,000 every month to help them till they get their next job.”
According to the cleric, the initiative would cover all leaders serving in various capacities within the church.
“So all of those leaders that serve in church that I just mentioned, you know, we’re giving N50,000 just to help them stabilise. One of the things the church should do is to be there for one another, hallelujah, to help them stabilise,” he added.
Idowu called on eligible members to register with the church administration, noting that extensive interviews would not be required due to the trust already established through their service.
He said, “If you’re that kind of person, that category, you want to see your pastor and your church administration and register. We’re not going to do so many interviews because for you to serve, we trust the fact that you’re honest.”
The churches in Nigeria often come under heavy criticism for the palatial state of their edifice, while the majority of their members suffer hardship. Some have blamed the church leaders for spending on new structures instead of empowering their members.
However, some churches have been consistent in empowering their members with skills to prepare them for the workplace.
