The Rivers State House of Assembly has once again commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The State legislature kicked off the process at plenary on Thursday, accusing Fubara and his deputy of gross misconduct.
Thepage reports that this is the second time the Assembly would initiate such proceedings within a space of 10 months.
In the heat of a similar move in 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency on Rivers State, effectively suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly in March over protracted crisis.
Not a few commentators believed that Tinubu’s action helped to thwart the impeachment move against Fubara, who was then at loggerheads with his estranged political godfather and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Wike remains in PDP, but championing a rainbow coalition in the State for Tinubu’s reelection in 2027
